Baltic Sea Basketball Cup 2025 started with the match up between the WU16 teams of Finland and Latvia – for many players these were the first International games of their career (I know – U15 games are also played – but I believe U16 level is the first ‘official’ level of international games).
It’s always great to see the young players emerging and then looking back in five to ten years from now and see where many of these players end up playing and thinking back to the dimly lit Audentes small gym and their first game.
Game itself – pretty much most of the game in control of Latvia WU16, with the ‘home team’ taking the first quarter by ten point difference and never looking back. Finland did at times claw the gap down – but Latvia always found the response and held out to a comfortable sounding 78-61 win in the opening game.
From the winning team the scoring was lead by five players : #16 Patricija Tikmere with 19 points, #19 Sarlote Skrebele with 16 points and #5 Enija Brokane with 12 and #20 Helene Araja and #42 Marta Arsentjeva with 10 points each.
From Finland two players reached double digits with #11 Michelle Peter scoring 13 points and #12 Maija Honkonen dropping one point more to get to the total of 14 points.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow – with Finland facing hosts Estonia and Latvia taking on Sweden.
