ToPo? Title contenders??
Mid-week game – PeKa struggles
From the game, to me.. it did not look like a game where two teams would be ready for playoffs that start next Wednesday..
Game was kinda a messy and confus-a-ball. At the moment PeKa has their game totally off the rails, three defeats in a row is something that they probably haven’t experienced since sliced bread was invented!
PeKa definitely have the players and coaches to get things ‘right’ – but yesterday, through my camera lens.. it looked like things were being forced or somethings were still being learned ahead of the playoffs ..
Curious case of Torpan Pojat 2025-26
Now, this will come out a little negative and positive.. and I am sorry about the negative. And these are just – I once again have to say – my thoughts…
With only 9 teams in the league, only one will miss playoffs, so it has been kind of clear for most teams that they will make playoffs, for quite a while. As unfortunate as it is – Kouvottaret were not challenging for a playoff place this season.
And now, we are looking at the team who few weeks ago was maybe thinking of relegation (ToPo) – being the team that everyone says is almost a favourite to win the title.
Why? How?
Magdalene Agyei + Carmen Tyson-Thomas
Agyei coming back was, for me, a huge surprise – as for talent wise she definitely should be playing in a better league. Tyson-Thomas – it always felt like it was more of a case of when.. than if.
If anyone loves, lives and breathes basketball in Women’s Korisliiga – it is Carmen.
(OH! and add to this the from Sarah Gates has found!!)
Game
It was STEAMING HOT!! … no.. not the game, but the Helsinki Kisasauna.. I mean Kisahalli. No venue in Finland is as hot as Kisahalli.. one of my reasons why don’t like playoff Finals to be played in there in May. When it’s +25 degrees outside.. it’s +37 degrees and humid inside.
Anyways.. game!
Made shots : ToPo 34 – 27 PeKa (plus a heck of a lot of free throws!)
As for the game story.. sorry, can’t come up with one. Maybe it was the heat in the venue or something – but I do not have a red line I could follow to tell how I saw the game .. apart from the : Confusing
Stat Pack
ToPo : Carmen Tyson-Thomas with a double-double 22p/15rb – Sarah Gates with 21 points, Magdalene Agyei 20 points, Lotta Vesiluoma 7 points and 8 assists, Anni Mujunen 8 points
PeKa : Lauren Heard with the double-double here 20 points – 10 rebounds (6 assists + 5 steals), Sara Dickey 18 points, Elin Gustavsson 11 points, Elina Arike 10 points, Verna Savioja 8 points and 5 rebounds.
What’s next?
Last round of game in regular season – Peka host EBT on Saturday in an all top4 clash, ToPo visit #2 Vimpelin Veto in the early game on Saturday.
There is a clear chance of some tactical play on the last round of the regular season – depending on the result of the 14.00 game between ViVe and ToPo.
