Where as in the WU16 game it was Latvia on the driving seat, in the WU18 game it was Finland were dominating the game – to be fair, Finland has at least initially thinking, a very strong WU18 age group as it is consists from the players who last summer won the WU16 EuroBasket and also the WU17 team who came 8th on the FIBA WU17 World Cup in Mexico.
And I once again remind you that I know next to nothing of what makes a good basketball player, or a good basketball team … but I COULD tell you what kind of basketball player a photographer enjoys!!!
Yes – the player who I as a photographer think is a GREAT player – might not always be a great player in the basketball sense of the word… but hey…. we all do what we know 😉
The end result FIN WU18 99 – 56 LAT WU18 – little mention there to Nea Schreck who did have time to take couple of more steps closer to the basket at the buzzer to make it a 100 points plus for Finland…
Three quarters stand out in the stats – with the opening 10 minutes going 29-13 to Finland, and 3rd quarter 20-7 and last ten minutes 29-14
#7 Tiia Talonen top scored for Finland with 20 points – all inside the arc or charity stripe, Anna Gardziella #12 added a strong 18 points on the board – the other two double digits scorers were Jessi Nenonen and Aluel Machol with 14 points and 10 points respectively.
From Latvia #24 Anna Liepina topped double digits as the only player for her team with 11 points, Latvia did also have strong performances on the rebounds with Kristine Hauka and Sindija Miscenko grabbing 6 boards each and Tamirise Simonova taking 5 rebounds and handing out 4 assists.
Like their WU16 counterparts – Finland will face the hosts Estonia tomorrow and Latvia take on Sweden.
