What’s in the bag??

Right, another week on the road coming up – this time with the Men’s national team Susijengi.

First heading to Israel for five days for the away game and then back to Helsinki for the last game of the World Cup qualifying – still chance for Susijengi to win their group, or end up third.. luckily I don’t get to play, so all I can do is take some decent photos.. as if I were in the playing roster, the team would surely end up losing both their games 😉

At least now there is a better chance of them winning…

But what is in my camera bag for this trip??

There’s always the limitations on what you can take with you, as it’s not like one is flying first class and have 25 hand luggage bags.. so somehow your lenses and cameras must fit in your cabin bag.. still not trusting the baggage carousels and machines to be tender and gentle with lenses.. sorry.

So what’s in the bag?

  • Three camera bodies : 2 x Sony a9II and Sony a7sIII
  • Three lenses : Sony 70-200mm f2.8 mkII, Tamron 35mm-150mm and Sigma 12-24mm f2.8
  • Three battery grips – these will be going to the checked-in luggage to save space
  • Accessory bits : PocketWizards, DJI mic, Pedal trigger, PlatyPod Max, Memorycard reader, laptop charger..

There is always compromise to be made here, of course you’d love to take some f1.2, f1.4 lenses with you – but when you want to cover as much of the court as possible, with as few lenses as possible.. then the zooms are the way to go, at least for me. 70-200mm is pretty much always a no brainer – even if recently it has been often replaced by the Tamron 35-150mm (which I just LOVE!!) and I know they cover pretty much the same focal lengths.. but the Tamron can sometimes be on the video-body and Sony on stills..

Then you would like an 11mm sometimes – or a 400mm – but, not on these trips.. sometimes when the home game is first and I can leave lot of gear at the hotel.. then it can be done. But when we fly abroad first with all the gear.. I go compact and easy.

Oh, and there is actually a fourth body there as well – with is my Leica Q2 Monochrome camera, that is lovely for some BTS and other photos – used it in Riga the other week and just was struck how cool those images looked – also remembered why every venue should have nice long corridors from the court to the locker rooms 🙂

So that’s most of what’s in the bag for the coming week – still packing things, so might add few bits .. if they fit.
