Legends of the game – Women’s D2

I go where requested..

Well, well, never thought I would find myself in a game like this, but what the social media request.. sometimes they get.

Warm-up

Short warm-up for the game, as the U11 (??) game went extra long, so players only got about 10 minutes to warm-up. But hey – players of this calibre, the game comes from the spine for them.

The game – Women’s D2 Southern region and : Pinja vs Visa Platinum

Let the game begin!!!

Where ever basketball goes…

Taru Tuukkanen will be there ..

To be honest, I did not look at the rosters of the teams before I got to Honka-Halli, and only then saw that Taru Tuukkanen and Heta Korpivaara are playing in the game.

These two probably were in the first Susiladies teams that I photographed like 20 years ago or something. And they are still going strong!

Game

It was my second Women’s II Division Southern region game (first one was LoU Basket vs MaHa Diamond) – and the league does have all sorts of teams … there are teams with lots of young players and others with more experienced players.

This game was close all the way – until in the last ten minutes Pinja held on to a 10 point win vs Visa Platinum.

These games are hard to follow at HonkaHalli – when you don’t always see the scoreboard so often have no idea what the situation is.

Stats are also ‘basic’ so for Pinja – Taru Tuukkanen 24 points and Heta Korpivaara 18 points.

Pinja vs Visa Platinum

For Visa Platinum Sini Veisto 20 points and Eveliina Teijo 17 points.

It was fun to see Taru Tuukkanen attempt few behind the back passes to her team-mates.. unfortunately this time none worked, so did not capture them on video. But it did make me smile.

And – when a game of basketball makes you smile – you know you are in the right place! That, in the end, is what this game is all about.. enjoying it!!

Highlight

Now – the game was already over when there was 39.56 on the clock.. but what do we see. Taru Tuukkanen on half court.. her team-mates sends a ‘Hail Mary’ pass and Tuukkanen sprints after the ball like she is 18 years old again.. and finishes the game with a lay-up and a fitting ‘celebration’ to go with it.

Table

In the league table of Women’s II Division South, Pinja (14-2) are in second place, with one game less played than league leaders Sykki (13-2). Visa Platinum are on fifth place with a 9-6 record.

And – not that I know much about the teams in this league, but if at all possible – I want to be there in Lohja on 10th of April when LoU Basket play Pinja … from my little knowledge, it should be a game of contrasts – and an interesting one to watch.
