Finnish basketball history – again!
It’s the morning after the night before, and what a night it was for Finnish basketball, with KarhuBasket clearing their way comfortably to the Final4 of FIBA EuropeCup!!
And surprisingly the negative posts about basketball on Social Media were mostly absent (well – we all know Social Media 😉 ) were on the whole rather positive and encouraging .. of course there are always few negative ones. Although there really aren’t that many posts about Finnish domestic basketball on social media.

But hey – for a Finnish team to reach a last four in any continental competition, that is something to shout about and be proud of. As a photographer I of course was disappointed to see that most newspaper/etc reports were with archive photos..
The game itself – for me – felt like sort of getting a good game of it, some photos I was happy with, photos that told a story, photos of the usual action and so on. Sometimes coming from a game you feel like you just about scraped enough photos to say that you were at the game.. sometimes due to the game being poor, sometimes because you just had an off-day behind the camera.
Not saying last night was my best game ever behind the camera, but I enjoyed shooting, the game was good, seats at the arena nicely full..
Although not a fan of the orange spotlights at halftime – not sure if one reflected funnily off something.. but got a proper ‘woozy moment’ there for couple of seconds.. which luckily passed, but I did leave the court side for a while to get some fresh air after that incident.

KarhuBasket going this far in the competition – it does make my spring photo tour a bit difficult, as the dates I had set in my calendar for the Korisliiga Finals (as they were published at the start of the season) – well, that has all now been changed so that the dates are NOT the same as they were. And I have lots of other events to photograph… so looks like I am not gonna make all the Korisliiga Finals games this season. Oh, and the dates can still change if (read WHEN!!!) KarhuBasket makes it to the Final of FIBA EuropeCup .. although that probably means that Korisliiga Finals will be played in June 😉
Typing this at Lauhanvuori National Park – one of my usual stops when working in/near Kauhajoki, with the sun rising behind the trees and long shadows starting to appear on the unbroken snow (and yes, I did leave my skis at home!! – luckily I’ll be here again in 48 hours).
Soon time to hit the road and head home for a day – before the second Pesäpallo photoshoot of the season… I think I’ve already managed to book 48 of the over 50 teams to be photographed.
