WU17 – HyPo vs BC Nokia

Long time – no see

Gosh, that was a trip down the memory lane! Drove to Hyvinkää and Martinhalli on Sunday morning, a venue where EIGHT!! years ago HyPo celebrated the Finnish Championship in Women’s Korisliiga.

This time – it was two games, first up at 11.30am was WU17 Finnish League game between HyPo and BC Nokia. I really had no expectations of this game, two new teams for me to photograph.

And – I was treated to a thriller of a game! So – well worth the 90 minute drive to get here.

Game Recap

Let me run down the scores by quarter 15-19, 19-17, 18-16, 18-17

From that alone you can tell that there really wasn’t ANYTHING at all between the two teams. And by winning the last quarter by ONE point – it was HyPo who took the win.

The teams are placed 7th and 8th in the WU17 league, both – I guess in very much theoretical terms would have a chance to reach playoffs – but in practice… well, never say never.

The stats say the there were 23 spectators in the game and at least some of them did have plenty to say to the referees during the game.. it is kinda fun to be at games where there are not that many fans. As you can hear everything that is being said…

Stat Pack

Still hunting for the that Triple-Double from someone at a game I attend..

HyPo : Nice and even stats on the scoring, only #13 Nelia Krantz and #7 Ilona Isotupa reaching double-digits on scoring, Nelia with 15 points and Ilona with 14 points. Nelia made the game’s only double-double as she added 10 rebounds to her scoring. Otherwise #74 Ella Kerman with 9 points and 4 rebounds and 4 steals. #50 Marianne Riikonen with 7 points and 7 rebounds and #10 Aada Ehrsten with 8 points and 3 steals.

BC Nokia :Four top scorers for the visitors #45 Oona Mäkinen 19, #26 Jenna Minkkinen 17, #42 Elma Ritala 14 and #11 Jasmin Pietilä 11 points. Top rebounder was #11 Jasmin Pietilä with 9 rebounds, #6 Elli Hinkkanen lead the way with fast hands and 7 steals

FINALLY !!!

I thought this was never going to happen!

The team that won the game, they actually CELEBRATED!!! I know we Finns really try not to show emotions at all, but was I HAPPY to see the HyPo players celebrate at the end of the game. I mean – not that it matters to me who won.. but just to see players happy and celebrating.. maybe I should come to Hyvinkää more often if that’s the way it is!

Then again – I remember the HyPo women’s team and their 2017 title celebrations at the same venue.. so maybe it is a ‘Hyvinkää thing’
