Sunday night hoops in B&W

The title says it all

Sunday night, I had few hours I could spare from my ‘doggie-sitting duties’. So I drove to Perniö and shot a game in B&W.

And yes, I set my camera to B&W mode – so I would ‘see the images’ in B&W when I captured them.

Yes, I could have shot in colour and edited the images to monochrome – but, I wanted the challenge and the whole point to be that I see the images in the viewfinder in B&W. So kind of like shooting on monochrome film, except that then you do see the images in colour.

Did I succeed??

I would like to think the set of images ended up kind of decent.

Two Galleries + Images explained

I will post the 40 or so images in TWO galleries, plus in-between I will explain the ‘story’ behind few images.

TITLE : ‘CAMRADERIE’

I chose this image to show the togetherness of a team – when the game is going well, when the game sucks – you are always one with your team.

TITLE : ‘REACHING FOR THE HEIGHTS’

This image was chosen for the action, the player in dark jersey has released the ball and is following through with the motion, the players in white jersey is attempting to block the shot.

Both players are having their fingers in the net, and the ball is bouncing above the rim.

TITLE : ‘DESPAIR’

When the player walks to the bench and buries his face into his jersey – it is a moment you both seek to capture, but at the same time – never want to capture.

What makes the game so enticing to capture, is the emotions.

TITLE : ‘INTO THE NIGHT’

The work you fans/followers/viewers/visitors rarely get to see, the long and lonely grind of the photographer – when they are away from the bright lights of the court.

We often spend long nights in front of the screen, editing the images/videos you will see the same night or following day…
