Teams of the week – Korisliiga – Week 1
Season 2022-23 is under way – and to keep up with some old traditions.. let’s make the ‘Team of the week’ for both men’s and women’s Korisliiga..
Positions might sometimes be a little ‘off’ and sometimes there are two big guys, sometimes one… but I try to keep the teams balanced, so there won’t be five centres or five point guards in the Team of the Week 😉
Not each team played this week, so some teams will lack even a chance to get a player in the first Team of the Week.. but it’ll all even out during the season.
First off – for the Naisten Korisliiga (women) – my Team of the Week is as follows :
The backcourt is occupied by Elina Aarnisalo of HBA and Sierra Moore of EBT. Both players had an outstanding game in the opening week, with one of these players in the running for the Player of the Week award!!
To the wings – Madelyn Utti of Honka and Carmen Tyson-Thomas of EBT – once again, both players playing a big part in helping their teams get the W on the opening day. And Tyson-Thomas making it two players for EBT in this weeks team of the week.
Under the basket, really came down to just one name this week, Elsa Lemmilä of Honka. Player who is already well established despite her young age – but is still expected to make a big leap this season with her performance.
As for the player of the Week – really nothing between the two candidates for this, but looking at stats, etc.. Player of the week for Naisten Korisliiga is …. Elina Aarnisalo!!!
Men’s Korisliiga and Team of the week, as follows.
The play caller role for this week goes deservedly to KJ Jackson of Kobrat Lapua, helping his team bring probably the biggest upset of the opening round, by taking down the defending champions Karhu Basket in the Pohjanmaa Derby!
As I have chosen to go with a two big men attack, the wing players for the first week are Johnatan Stove of BC Nokia and Brandon Tabb of KTP. Both instrumental in their teams win, especially Stove who played almost all of 40 minutes vs Vilpas as the 6/7 man rotation on Nokia overcame full strength Vilpas.
The Twin-Towers for the opening week, from KTP Mubashar Ali and from Helsinki Seagulls Zena Edosomwan
So there, team of the week of Men’s Korisliiga – and lastly – the Player of the Week award for the first week… Johnathan Stove of BC Nokia – just the sheer amount of minutes he had to put in on Saturday evening..
