Jamar Wilson – from Bronx to Susijengi

It was 2015 in Tampere.. when Susijengi fans first saw Jamar Wilson in the blue-white of Susijengi and from that moment onwards, he made his way into the hearts and minds of Finnish basketball fans forever!

If there was one guy with a smile always on his face when the team was traveling, training or playing… it was Jamar. For me – he was also always ready to give few words in front of the camera, win or lose.

As well as playing and covering his games with the Susijengi, one of the most memorable games I saw him play in was the ‘Belgrade Derby’.. crazy atmosphere (in a good way!) a win in the end and an image of Wilson standing on a chair in front of the home support.. that image will end up on my home office wall (hopefully signed by Jamar!) one day.

Funnily many of the memories of ‘Jammu’ are from games vs France… his debut vs France, his memorable rendition of Kylmästä Lämpimään in the Fan Meet in France, his winning basket at the home EuroBasket in 2017 in Helsinki … vs France. It was only fitting that Jammu also played his last league games… in France!!

If you check one video out – make it the one below.. Jamar giving his very best in Montpellier 2015 at the Susijengi fan meet!!

Finnish basketball will ALWAYS have a special place for the man from Bronx.. and I do sincerely hope that he will attend Susijengi games in the future.. even if it might feel slightly strange not to see him dribbling with the ball up the court and taking it to the hoop.

From the bottom of my heart, Jamar – a HUGE thanks for everything you brought to Finnish basketball and enjoy the well deserved retirement from the great game! See you soon my friend!
