Creating Buzz with AI Action Figures: A Trend Analysis

What’s happening and hot?

I always keep one eye on the trends on Social Media to see if there would be something fun to create either by my own skills – or by using AI to create something.

The latest hype seems to be about creating ‘Action Figure’ packages to look like you are packaged inside an action figure sales package – so, with my teeth still aching and being home on this Wednesday. I thought to jump in the trend with few attempts on various different Text to Image AI services.

CHAT GPT vs DALL-E 3

Five of these images have been created with DALL-E 3 and the other six with CHAT-GPT.

Prompts have been various, some have been created with the AI engine asked to create an image in the likeness of certain player (providing text details) – others have been asked to be created with reference of linked images online.

DALL-E 3 results

Over here the players are supposed to be – on the order from the top row :

  • Shawn Hopkins – Helsinki Seagulls
  • Nicole Ogun – EBT
  • Samu Adler – Salon Vilpas
  • Hannes Polla – KatajaBasket
  • Elina Koskimies – Peli-Karhut

Now, some of these did work out OK, in a cartoony kind of way – so not in ‘oh – that definitely looks like him/her’. And what I was surprised that the female characters seemed to be very much ‘made up’ and stuff like that – where as the male characters weren’t

But for something that is just a nice fun way to make some online content, these definitely work on that level to create buzz and interest.

CHAT GPT results

From the top here we have :

  • Simo Karhu – Karhu Basket
  • Lassi Nikkarinen – Helsinki Seagulls
  • Bojan Sarcevic – Korihait (no – he’s not transferred to Seagulls!)
  • Lilli Onnela – HBA
  • Samu Adler (again!) – Vilpas
  • Hannes Polla – Kataja Basket

Now, here the AI was given links in the prompts to look at the real person and make the image in their likeness, and in most cases the results are pretty good.

Personally maybe not impressed with Lilli Onnela and ‘Lasso Nikkorinon’ – Also – not quite sure that Bojan has played for the Seagulls?? But hey – if AI says so, maybe it sees the future?

With these CHAT GPT images there is more consistency in the way the packaging looks like and what the action figures look like inside them. Whether the accessories of the figures is in any way related to the person – you might need to check with the players themselves.

Conclusion

Is AI more hassle than it’s worth?? I am not so sure – for me it is a good tool to create something like this, when I really have no skills to make these myself. Also – I do use AI to toss ideas about some photoshoots and other stuff.

What do YOU think – are these nice additions to content one can create online, or just another fancy annoying thing to take up your time?
