BSBC 2026 – Day 01

Finland and Sweden go 3-1 on opening day

Baltic Sea Basketball Cup 2026 started the New Year again for me, and on the opening day. Finland and Sweden WU16, MU16 and WU18 teams took wins over Estonia and Latvia respectively. Where as in MU18 Estonia and Latvia took wins over Finland and Sweden.

On the second day Finland will play Estonia and Sweden plays Latvia in all age groups.

PLAYER OF THE DAY

For the opening day of BSBC 2026 – the player of the day is KERSTIN WICKSTRÖM of SWEDEN WU16. Her stats on the opening game for Sweden were : 21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block, solid shooting percentage and ‘Index’ of 38 points.

Top Performers of the day

FINWU16-LATWU16 : 76-61 – Finland taking the opening win of the tournament and Sanni Mäkinen with 16pts, 6rb, 4stl, 1 block and Noora Uusikumpu with a double-double 11pts,12, rb2stl and 2blocks the two stand-out players in the stats, Darina Ivanova with 12 points and 8 rebounds standing out on the stats page.

SWEWU16-ESTWU16 : 67-47 – Big win for Sweden in the second WU16 game of the day, Kerstin Wickström 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 steals getting the double-double, Leia Agilar 12points, 6rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals having a strong line of stats. For Estonia Melinda Sormus racked up 8 points and 6 rebounds for the host team.

FINMU16-LATMU16 : 84-70 – Another win for Finland to open the tournament as the boys started the tournament, Milton Ekholm with 14points and 6 rebounds and a strong line from Max Crayton 7 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds for Finland as the stats were shared nicely among the roster, Emils Hauka with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists having the biggest stats for the Latvians.

SWEMU16-ESTMU16 :76-64 – Sweden also took second win in two games on the opening day, with Valdemar Säwström with 14points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals coming only a little short of a double-double, Arvid Folke also scoring 14points and adding 7 rebounds to his stats. Tom Laurimaa top performed for Estonia with 14points, 3 rebound and 2 assists.

FINWU18-LATWU18 : 92-66 – BIG win for the young Wolves, with court time shared amongst the players – Aino Koskela dropped 19 points, Anna Gardziella came one rebound short of a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Aluel Machol taking 10 rebounds. Mila Luzgina dropping 17 points for Latvia.

SWEWU18-ESTWU18 : 100-62 – If Finland’s win for big – then Sweden took an even bigger win, Lovia Holmgren with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals with the stellar stats for the winners, Linnea Nordberg assisting nicely with 14 points. For Estonia Bia Aller with 20 points and Nora-Liis Veisberg with a double-double 16 points and 12 rebounds.

FINMU18-LATMU18 : 57-94 – First win for Latvia and first defeat for Finland in BSBC 2026, with Markus Tebelis 18 points and Karls Aumeisters 10 rebounds standing out for the strong Latvian roster, Lasse Sellman 13 point and Aarne Pällijeff 12 points scoring for Finland.

SWEMU18-ESTMU18 : 62-75 – Like Latvia, Estonia also took their first win of the tournament in the late game, Robert Kangur with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists, and Jesper Roman with 14 points helping Estonia to a comfortable win. Michael Odkins with 11 points and 4 rebounds the best for Sweden.
