Nordic Championships 2023 – GD2
It’s getting HOT in here !!!
Been a while since I’ve done Youth events during the summer, and let’s just say that I am Finnish enough to feel the summer heat. Outside in the just below 30 Celsius degrees, no air-con at the hotel or arenas… long days, yep – it does take a toll on you.
Don’t get me wrong, loving being here and doing the photos and videos – just sometimes would appreciate a small cool breeze during the 10 hour shifts at the Täljehallen in Södertälje.. or the hotel in the nights.
Wednesday was another three game day for me – plus the other 6-8 games for video (just because I feel like doing it) – and 2 wins and one loss for the Finns from these.
Also found out that I have access to the Food Court at the Arena – which is GREAT!! for those long days when you can’t head out to grab a bite to eat. Always appreciate when organisers provide food at the venue, us at content creation work peculiar hours and food is not always the first… second… or even tenth thing we consider. So to have food available at the venue… big points for Swedish Basketball for organising that!!!
It is always nice to end the day with a frame you feel good about – so yesterday it was a poster dunk in the Men’s U20 game between Finland and Denmark .. gotten plenty of comments about this photo on IG since last night. Danes seem to enjoy it, the Finns… a little less so. When you are a photographer – you don’t always get to choose who makes the best dunks or from whom you get the best photos in a certain game. We just capture what happens on the court – we can’t make it happen (unless it is a pre-game or time out when there is some ‘good’ music and you as a photographer decide to do a little ‘dance’ on the baseline…)
Now.. another day awaits and more games to cover.. and with the teaser of the Mini Movie from the tournament, let’s see how players now react when they see the camera. Been getting some smiles, and some weird looks when I approach players at the arena with my camera at random times. Sometimes when they know what the footage is for – it makes it easier .. sometimes, it makes it more difficult.
Four more days of Nordics in Södertälje – can’t wait to capture it all!!
