Action shots with 16-35mm + remember the fans

Firstly out let’s get this out of the way, as I speculated – the exciting game was NOT the one I chose for myself on Saturday.. it was the ‘other’ game. Then again, I did say this to many – even before the game last night that most likely the game I came to was going to be a bit boring and one-sided, and the other game was going to be a close one and offer the result that made the bigger story of the last round of regular season.

But when you are at the game, make the most of it. 🙂

I optimistically tried to hunt for a dunk photo with my 16-35mm lens from under the basket, but Korisliiga this year has either lifted the rims another 15cm higher – or the coaches have started to tell their players to only shoot three pointers as then they can miss more shots and still make a bigger total score…

So, no dunks on the photos (there were, I think, two attempts to dunk.. but 🙁 ) this time around, but guess Kauhajoki is the only Arena in Finland where it is really nice to shoot with the wide-angle from under the basket. Why?? Because there is seating on all four sides of the court and last night there was plenty of fans – so the backgrounds look great. Not to take anything away from a brown brick wall or puolapuut .. guess it’s just my preference.

Game itself … it was Kauhajoki in control all the way from buzzer to buzzer, but the home fans surely left home happy and can now look forward to the Top 6 group for the next ten rounds and a secured spot in the playoffs. Pyrintö – they are still moving in the right direction and would not put it past them to get to the playoffs from the lower half of the league… actually the lower half might be the more interesting for the coming weeks.

End of the game – the usual thanking of the fans by KarhuBasket players/coaches .. then again, it is easier to go and thank them after a winning game. But they do also do it after losses, just wanted to point that out as well.

For me the visits to Kauhajoki are always fun – it is a smallish place and basketball is a big thing here, and I’ve been coming here for many times and many seasons to cover the games. So I meet more people here that talk to me, than I do back home in Ekenäs – it pretty much starts when I go to the local Citymarket to grab something to snack.. and probably get two or three people chatting to me, and then to the Arena to and well.. most people there seem to know me 😉

Accomodation-wise… still waiting for my camper van to be built, so stuck either making back-forth drives everywhere, or choosing hotels/cabins to stay in. This time in Kauhajoki (for one night) staying at some old looking farm house type of accommodation .. rather a large space for single person to stay in… I think there are beds for six or seven people here and in two floors. I do miss my own space in the camper … don’t like to stay at hotels and stuff… but, work does what work do for you!

Two more days in Pohjanmaa – doing some projects that some people are getting to know about.. but let’s keep it on the down low for a wee while longer!
