Remote camera action from Korisliiga
It had been way too long…..
In Korisliiga there just aren’t enough venues where there are ‘proper’ baskets – and even then, with the right kind of support beams. So using remote cameras in Korisliiga games is a little bit of hit and miss… Salohalli is the one where they have real baskets and right kind of beams for me to attach my cameras/remotes.
Done it there fair few times and with varying results – but the last time might have been last season, so it was nice to get to the venue early last week to get the cameras installed. Only problem was that I had to install it while the baskets were down – which is not ideal as you can’t really know where you are pointing your lens to – and whether focusing is spot on. But – downsides of a league where teams rarely have much to say about their venues and only have access to the court few hours before tip-off.
But – camera installed – and maybe with years of experience of doing these kind of set-ups.. the direction and focusing was pretty good (also counting that there is a HUGE sponsor stickers at the top of the backboard .. which takes away lot of the photo angle.. but – you make do with what you got 🙂
Behind the backboard I had :
Sony a9II
Sigma 14-24mm f2.8
Two Manfrotto Magic Arms
PocketWizard III trigger
Safety wires
Black cardboard for reflection prevention
Looking at the results, had maybe set the lens focal length a bit too wide (14,9mm according to Photoshop) – so the images were slightly distorted at certain distances. But not having done this for a while – was reasonably happy with the results.. from the 800 or so images, maybe 20 went through the cull as good or OK. Nothing was a WOW!! image – but hey, can’t get them and you sometimes have to go through many games before nailing that ‘money shot’.
Maybe it was the re-ignited passion for this, that I got from the 12 days of basketball – or something, but it was great to have the remote images to shift through after the game.. and there is also that one moment when you take the memory card out of the camera and put it to the card reader… your eyes go to the amount of data on the card… there are times when I’ve seen 156MB … and you go ‘S%&ÖT! !!!!’ because for a reason or another, the camera hasn’t triggered at all and you have NO images..
The times when you get the card and it says, 14,5GB … you know you should have a decent amount to look through and chances of a good one are good.
So – remote images from the Vilpas Vikings vs KTP Basket in Finnish Korisliiga!
