HBA-BC Nokia – Korisliiga (W)

Friday night – Capital city lights

Ventured to Korisliiga (W) game on Friday night in Helsinki. Beforehand I was hoping/expecting a close game, but a mid-game injury changed put an end to that.

And no, not saying that one injury in this game totally changed it – but it was a big blow.

Flu-Season games

BC Nokia came into the game already missing few key players due to the ‘Flu-wave’ that is sweeping Pirkanmaa region (and rest of Finland), HBA always have about 4 or 5 players who are not in a roster ..

So often in February/March – the team that manages to keep their players healthy, they are the ones who keep winning.

Game

Not really too much I got from this, the opening minutes were keeping it close – then the injury to Laila Lawrence of BC Nokia, changed the game a bit.

Second quarter was still close.. but I think during the third quarter I zoned-out for a while and thought of something totally different.. and then was brought back to reality by the buzzer. It seems I was leaning on the bannister and looking at the ceiling.. might have missed something in the game during that time.. (sorry!)

You know how sometimes it just feels like the game just feels like ‘it needs to be played until the end’ – sort of like, when you are rewatching a TV-show.. and you know the ending and exactly what will happen.. but, as you’ve started to watch it.. you just can’t stop.

That’s how it felt to me during the last 15 minutes or so..

Stat Pack

(well – this will come if the darn Box Score from Tulospalvelu could load a bit quicker!!)

HBA : This often a tough one, as the rotation is large and a lot like in youth national teams.. most players are given that 20-28minutes .. which means, no big stats for anyone.

Jessi Nenonen 16 points and Emilia Helasuo 12 points – the only ones in double digits on points. Anna Gardziella 13 rebounds and Duua Aden 10 rebounds – double-digits on the boards. Duua Aden with a nice addition of 3 blocked shots – and also Jessi Nenonen with 2 blocks. On assists.. yeah, if you get more than FIVE in the Finnish leagues.. you have done well, we don’t serve assists on the stat-sheets here 😉

Shout Out! to Aluel Machol for her 100% shooting night!!! 2/2 from inside the paint, 2/2 from the charity stripe.

BC Nokia : Tough one … Tuulia Timo with 19 points – a game high. Sorry that’s kinda it…

Both teams : Shooting was just OFF on Friday – HBA 3/30 from 3 points range (10%) – BC Nokia 3/22 from 3 point range (13.6%) – in an age where 3 point shooting wins Championships.. I am sure both teams know they can do better.

What’s next?

HBA travel to Tampere on Wednesday to play Pyrintö – who had a depleted roster on their game over the weekend. BC Nokia have a rest during midweek, and they return to the capital on Saturday to play ToPo at the ‘Basketball Museum’ – this is a big game on the tussle for playoff positions!
