Korisliiga MVP choices – October
Seeing so many games in the last month, as well as having met all the teams/players. I thought it might be fun to choose my own choice for MVP for the first month of the Korisliiga season.
When I first looked at the stats and players – it seemed like an easy choice. But then – looking at them deeper, it was a bit more difficult than that.
As I can not see all the games in person, of course my choices have to rely on the stats quite a lot. On both Naisten Korisliiga and Korisliiga – for me, it came to be a choice between two players.
In the Naisten Korisliiga – it was the choice between Mia Loyd of Forssa, or Delaney Hodgins of EBT. Both have had absolutely outstanding month, and have racked up impressive stats. But looking at the five ‘main’ stats of Points, Rebounds, Assists, Efficiency and +/- , and where the player ranks in them, the scales just tipped in favour of Mia Loyd of Forssa. I am sure many who have seen more of EBT games, could say Hodgins deserves the title just as much (and having seen last night EBT vs Catz game – I couldn’t argue with that). But – my choice for October : Mia Loyd – Forssan Alku!!
For Men’s Korisliiga – once again, toss between two players for me. And this time, not going for the team on the top of the league Vilpas. That team is too even, and doesn’t have an outstanding single player, yet. So the the search went a little down the table, Sean O’Mara of BC Nokia – impressive first pro month after college. The kid has slotted straight in to the BC Nokia roster and the duo of Labovic and O’Mara – is one that no offence or defence wants to meet this season! The second one – Michael Moser of Karhu Basket – the defending champions new recruit for the season – had a great BCL qualifying as ‘pre-season’ and now has dominated the league. Once again, going to the stats to look at the difference between the two players – and O’Mara’s consistency in being in Top10 of all apart from assists, is the thing that tipped it to the Korisliiga rookie who arrived here from Xavier (familiar to many Finns around hoops).
So there – my choices for the Players of the Month for October… feel free to leave your opinions…
