Finnish Cup – Final 4 – Day 1
First day of Finnish Cup Final 4 (basketball) in the books – it’s just gone past midnight and all images have been edited – tagging them tomorrow morning, before three games to shoot at the Arena.
Just a usual day in the life of a tournament photography, sure many of you can relate to that.. at the arena hours before anyone, one the last to leave… and still thinking ‘Yep – gotta edit those 2000-3000 images before doing this all again tomorrow…’
But – I hope we have chosen this job ourselves, so no-one to blame and we knew (maybe 😉 ) what it entails.
Day didn’t get to the best of starts – as I decided to travel by train to Helsinki (staying in a hotel for the weekend) instead of the normal, which is traveling by car. Got to the train fine, left 5 minutes late… then it started to go slow, and in the end we were about 50 minutes delayed. Luckily I had counted on this one when booking the travels – so still in plenty of time at the arena for the games. Even if walking in Helsinki is like walking on an ice rink… so lots of ‘penguins’ about on the streets.
Two games to shoot today – men’s semis – and I hate to be blunt, but both games were boring blowouts. I don’t claim to understand all the finer points of the game.. and maybe look at the games through the photos and judge it by them. And these two.. well, not much to say.. first game happened and then the second game happened.
There were few nice dunks – one REALLY unfortunate injury in the last minute of the second game, so that put a real damper on the evening.
On the positive side – nice to meet lots of familiar faces and have some chats with basketball friends ..
Now back at the hotel – ready to hit the sack and be back at the arena around 8am/9am TODAY! Two women’s semis and then Men’s Final.. looking forward to the ‘comeback of Ella’ .. that’s reason enough to be excited about the first game tomorrow!!!
It was great to be back on the baseline – even if I do moan that the games were boring, etc.. it is still basketball and the game I love to shoot!
Three more games today… well, after I get some sleep first 🙂
