PeU-Basket vs Ura Basket
Another game goes down to the wire!
Men’s D1 (B) had a thriller in store on Sunday evening in Perniö! It was the South-West coast derby between PeU-Basket and Ura Basket – the 250 or so spectators were treated to a game that could have gone any way.

Bench Technical proves costly?
With the scores at PeU 78-76 Ura … and 2 minutes and 23 second remaining in the game.
Tino Yli-Junnila of PeU-Basket misses a three pointer in front of the Ura Basket bench, Aku Haikonen of Ura Basket gets the rebound.
Then – with the referee well placed and close by – the Ura Basket bench/coach (not sure which) takes a Technical foul. Now – I don’t know what was said/done to warrant the tech. foul – but it was CRUCIAL!! when we look at the end result.
With Yli-Junnila sinking the one free throw, that was the gap after 40 minutes.. ONE point! Yes – naturally there were chances to score for both teams – but the gap went to THREE points after the free-throw.
PeU-Basket only made one 2 pointer after that – and Ura Basket two close range baskets. So 81-80 the final score.. would it have been an overtime game without the technical?? Maybe!
But as always – the game lasts 40 minutes and there were many chances that could have gone in before that.. but, it was a big foul to get so late in the game!
Men’s D1 (B) keeps on delivering
Honestly – the Men’s D1, both 1 A and 1 B, are REALLY serving some exciting games this season. And this might be an unpopular opinion, but having covered a fair bit of Korisliiga and D1 games this season and seasons gone past.

In my opinion, the level of domestic game in Finland really is the Division 1 level. Yes – Korisliiga is the ‘flagship’ league and top league, but – with most teams swapping all four imports each season .. (although – in last two seasons we have seen import players return for second/third season).
But – if you want to go to a cozy venue, room for maybe 200-300 fans – most games having decent crowds.. I urge you to head to a game in the D1 A or B!
