Lou Basket vs Feeniks – WU16
Late game in WU16 Finnish League
Back in Lohja – this time for WU16 Finnish League, where Lou Basket and Feeniks Basket faced off in the ‘late’ game of the WU16 Finnish League.
And with the other results, Lou Basket were looking for a home win to try and close the gap to the fourth place and playoffs, and when two of the teams right above them lost earlier on Saturday.
This was a great chance for them to claw back some points and get into four points of the fourth place – with five games remaining in the regular season.
Lou Basket fast out of the block
Opening 10 minutes were played to the tune of the home team, and it was the two players with the surname Saajos who were doing the most ‘damage’ in scoring. Hetti-Inkeri Saajos with 9 points by halftime (most in the opening 10) and Unna-Maija Saajos with 6 points by the long break.
Second 10 minutes – Feeniks Basket listened to the advice of coach Heinämäki and the gap started to narrow, Pinja Kallionpää and Nelli Heino hitting few buckets each as the away team clawed back four points during the second quarter.
Elviina Hautamäki of Lou Basket stacked up 7 rebounds and 4 points – and with little adjustment to her shooting – she is the top bet to get a double-double in the game.
Flu Season still rocking
It is ‘funny’ in games in Finland – where there isn’t loud music being played.. how you can so CLEARLY hear the coughing and sneezing of the crowd and players … showing that the influenza and flu season is not over.. and teams are always closely keeping an eye on how many healthy players they can get to their roster for any given game.
Second half
Well, Hautamäki did get her double-double in the end 11 points and 12 rebounds – not as comfortable as I thought, but still. Iida Niinistö also reached a double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Game itself, stayed pretty steady, Feeniks never got close enough to threaten the hosts, so Lou Basket did close the gap to the fourth place as the games are coming thick and fast ahead of the playoffs.
For Feeniks Kalina Klimeska top scored with 19 points, which was also the top score in the game by any individual.
Good atmosphere in Lohja
There might not have been hundreds of fans in the game, but the 30 or 40 who were there, did keep up good noise all through out the game.
After the game – it was quickly to the camper and towards the next game of the day…
