Women D1 – LePy vs JBA

More D1 action !

Last weekend I spent a LONG day in Leppävaara, covering games for LePy – from U17 games to Women’s D1 game during their ‘Super Sunday’.

There was more crowd at the game than most Women’s Korisliiga games – showing that the next tier of the game definitely gathers interest in Finland!!

Game

Home team (LePy) called the early shots in the game, but JBA took the last three quarters and the game.

One turning point was the three point shooting in the second half – with Ella-Maria Hiltunen and Lotta Tiittanen finding the range with successive long range shots and taking the game to a safe distance for the last quarter. Guess Hiltunen does not wear the #3 in her shirt just for looks.. 6/13 from the long range, and probably 5 in a row at one point.

For home team – Miisa Pylkkänen and Carita Simola reached double digits – and Ava Quarshie was again strong in the boards with 7 rebounds.

Home team were missing Minna Mali – who has clocked big points and rebounds – not sure if there was a something in the game on the 9th of November when Mali only played 6 minutes vs EBT II.

League – What’s next?

In the league table – LePy stay on the third place with 5-3 record, JBA go up few places to 8th place with 4-3 record.

JBA now have a free weekend, and play again in Helsinki on the 14th of December vs Pantterit, and LePy travel this weekend to Lahti to face Team LemKem.
