What the X Korisliiga – 09.09-16.09
Now Finnish people are not the most active on X/Twitter – and people who follow basketball even less so, but – there are always SOME Tweets about the league most weeks and they are naturally all in Finnish… so to get the word out to the wider world, I will pick some random Tweets each week to ‘highlight’ and translate into English .. so what were the talking points during the week of 9th to 16th of September 2024 ??
Big news came right at the start of this week, with Korisliiga announcing that the Finnish Cup would NOT be played during this season. The Tweet is short and just says : Basketball Finnish Cup will not be played during the forthcoming season.
This news of course was right away picked up by, for example Juha Tuna a reporter for Salon Seudun Sanomat (who does post a lot about basketball .. so we’re sure to see his Tweets here during the season a LOT!)
He posted a thread which started : Finnish basketball keeps on surprising you : Finnish Cup will not be played during this season, because YLE (national broadcaster) parliamentary group has not reached a decision yet. So, when YLE does not broadcast the finals, the whole tournament will be cancelled. Basketball boom at its best!
Few teams also kept posting about the start of the season, their preseason games, new signings, players leaving, injuries… the usual stuff.
Possibly a software glitch – not sure, gave KatajaBasket roster as their last seasons roster on one their preseason games statistics.. which made local reporter Petri Siitonen say : If I would have written my report based on that (image below), the even the crows would have laughed
Vilpas posted that one of their new signings Samu Adler was taking part in a tournament in California – with a simple text : Samu Adler of Vilpas participating in a top tournament in California.
Another reporter – really .. it is only reporters or teams tweeting… Eero Siivonen was at place in Uusikaupunki as Korihait opened their preseason and the size of the crowd was the talking point : Considering it is a preseason game, a very respectable amount spectators at Pohitulli for the first game of the autumn.
Of course the posts from teams about their games are always fun – but they were mainly photos of stat sheets .. so didn’t see the point of posting them. I will try to pick up some more ‘interesting’ post in the future .. this was just a test to see how this goes. And I might also add Instagram to this, to get more content and different kind of content.. but hey, little look into the Twitter-world of #Korisliiga from the past week .. Finnish Cup, technical glitches, youngster visiting a tournament in California, good crowds at preseason game .. can’t wait for the season to arrive!
