All streaks come to an end…
17 years … that’s not half bad in my books!
That is the amount of years that I have photographed some basketball leagues ALL teams at the start of the season .. meaning their official profile-photoshoots. Starting from way back when Andy Webb of BBL gave me the chance in the UK and then through some stops to Finland where Mika Mäkelä and Tom Westerholm of Korisliiga took the chance at the idea here in Finland.
But, as things stand at the moment – the season 2024-25 will be the first one in 17 years when I do NOT photograph all teams for the league (but – summer is long 😉 ). So it will feel really strange come the autumn and not packing the camper for a month long tour of Finnish regions and seeing all the new players and old familiar ones as well.
For the fact that I have never been employed by any league – so I have worked as a freelancer – this spell of 17 years is something I am personally kind of proud of. Must mean that somehow I have done something right for all this time 🙂
Having said all that – if there is any basketball league (or any other sport for that matter!) ANYWHERE in the world, I’d be more than happy to jump at the opportunity to shoot the promo shots and GIF videos .. just give me a shout and I will pack my camper van and head to shoot photos and videos.
Before the autumn comes – there is still the small matter of summer with National Teams.. Men’s Olympic Qualification, WU17 World Cup, MU18 European Championships… plenty to shoot and plenty of time to come of with a plan for the autumn and what/where to shoot something. Knowing that there is no big photoshoot tour makes it a bit less appealing to replace the FOUR Godox batteries I forgot at a photoshoot earlier in May (I did get in touch with my contact at the team – but unfortunately they haven’t replied about whether they have them or saw on CCTV what happened to them… so got to shell €1200 to replace some batteries 🙁 )
Look out for some of my own content from the summer – I might not post all on Social Media, so might really be over here where I share stories/photos/content.
Let’s see what new winds blow come the start of next domestic basketball season… maybe I will be somewhere in Romania or India shooting their domestic leagues promo images.. or … maybe in Finland 🙂
