Been around for a while..
Sometimes when you plug in an external hard drive, you realise that you have been doing this sports photography for few years – not anywhere near as long as some others.. but still, a year or two has passed since I picked up the camera for the first time.
And when you look at photos, even from 13 years ago – you think that most of those players are not playing anymore, or are rather experienced these days.
Whether those photos I took – like the ones in this post – in 2010, are any good – that is always up for debate. Different times, different cameras and events were also different back in those days.
Why photos from 2010 for this post?? Well, with basketball World Cup coming in about 6 weeks time in Japan, Philippines and Indonesia… it reminded me of one of my favourite World Cups.. the 2010 event in Turkey. And yes, I might have been a bit ‘naughty’ and asked certain Turkey player to sign my shirt after a Final.
But something about the event in Turkey was special – I actually flew to all the cities were Group Stages were held, covered EACH team in the tournament at least once (try to do that these days… gonna rack up some serious air miles in Asia 😉 ).
And also it helped that the hosts were doing well in the tournament – keeps us photographers getting some good photos when the arenas are packed. Nothing worse than a big venue and it’s quarter full… done enough of those games in various places as well – guess not each game can draw 14.000 fans to the seats???
A little memory lane trip this one – also a strange one for my client base this one. Not sure I sold many basketball photos .. but I did end up selling few galleries of Cheerleader photos and some promotional stuff from here. Never know who approaches you and for what kind of photos.
Now it’s another MONTH to wait and hear if I will get accredited for the World Cup in (Finland case) Japan… fans can already book their flights… for us in the media, it is still very much a waiting game…
