From college to WNBA, to Europe and now Catz!
Sydney Wallace was one the names that struck out for me, when I looked at the new signings in this years Naisten Korisliiga in Finland. So – I caught up with her after their game vs EBT in Espoo.

Wallace played her college ball at Georgia Tech, going from scoring 7.4 points in her first season, to going to 13.1 points in her last. It wasn’t all smooth sailing in college, as in December 2014, right after scoring her 1001st career point – she tore her ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) – being one of the carrying forces of the team, it was a blow for the team, as well as for Sydney. But as we can see – it didn’t stop her from playing the game, it just made things a bit tougher.
Her talent was spotted by Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA – who signed her in May 2016, and in the WNBA debut, Wallace dropped 9 points.
Video Interview with Sydney Wallace :
Since her time at the WNBA, Wallace had made a name for herself in the European leagues. Having played in Switzerland, France and Romania. From the Continental competitions, Wallace played for Sepsi in the Eurocup last season, with a 5.3 point and 3.3 rebound average. In the domestic leagues, she averages almost 20 points per game – which she has continued to produce in Finland for Catz.
Picking up the game of basketball at young age, when her father spotted that Sydney could dribble the ball… and the rest.. as they say, is history.
Outside of basketball – Wallace enjoys fishing, but it might take some persuading to get her to go ice fishing on Lake Saimaa during the cold Finnish winter. But who knows, maybe her team mates will give it a try?
One thing is for sure – the defences of the opposing teams.. they will find Sydney Wallace a tough player to stop this season!
