WU17 Final – Game #2 – EBT vs HNMKY

Sunday’s second game offered another medal ceremony on the line, as HNMKY took the 

Opening win yesterday in the Game #1.

To me, the HNMKY win was definitely a surprise, EBT have been a tsunami all season and not really losing too many games. So to have three ‘poor’ quarters (by their standards) in the opening game….

It gave their coach plenty to think about ahead of the second game in the Best of Three series.

Then again, in the Women’s Korisliiga – not many expected HBA to beat EBT in the quarter-finals… so it almost becomes a question whether EBT has timed their peak form too early this season??

In many ways, this could have been a season when EBT wins Women’s Korisliiga, WU19, WU17 and WU16..

Game #2 – jump ball

It sure was not a pretty game of basketball.. I think we might have gone to the 38th minute of the game, before we had over 60 seconds without the whistle being blown!

The game had 44 baskets made/scored from open play – and it had 110!! (that is ONE HUNDRED AND TEN!!) rebounds!! That’s like.. one made basket = 3 rebounds! DAMN!

This I have NOT seen before.
HNMKY their top scorer was Vanessa Weckström with 12 points, where as Veera Vartia for HNMKY had 13 rebounds!! So – their top scorer had LESS points in total than their top rebounder..

Does that tell you what kind of game we witnessed?

Saana Laine top scored for EBT with 16 points, Emilia Koskela had 15 points for the home team.

Oh yes, result

EBT took the win, mainly thanks to having the only ten minute spell in the game that – to me – seemed ‘normal basketball’. The opening ten minutes where they scored 25 points, other than that – neither team reached 20 points in any other ten minutes of the game.

End result 63-54 for EBT ..

And more rebound news… HNMKY had 56 rebounds… and 54 points…
