Exclusive Inside Look: Finland WU17 Basketball Team’s Exciting Journey to WU17 World Cup
Summer has been long, and not like the end is anywhere near yet either.
Since the beginning of the National Team camps, I have been visiting the Finland WU17 training camps, games, meetings, etc to capture their journey to be the FIRST ever Finnish Women’s team to compete in a basketball World Cup, as the FIBA WU17 World Cup in Mexico is ready to start tomorrow.

Before heading to the first training camp with them, I had not met all of the players .. but probably had met most of them at some photoshoots/games before.. luckily the team/players welcomed me (and more importantly my cameras!!) quickly and since the first days.. creating content has been a breeze with them!
Last week on Saturday I joined the team for their warm-up games in Madrid, Spain – before flying over to Leon with them on the following Monday…. since which myself and the team have been adjusting to the time difference and altitude in Leon, Mexico.

After the tournament there will be a LOOONNNGGG video ‘documentary about the summer with the team, probably so long that most people can not be bothered to watch the whole thing.. and if I would have pitched this idea to any client.. the reply would have probably been something in the lines of ‘we need to keep videos to under 60 seconds to maximise viewers/viewing time’ (which of course is true in this time and age of social media!!). So now that this project is my own – it doesn’t matter if anyone watches the video in the end – for me it is also about capturing another historic part of Finnish basketball.. so far I have been to the MU17 World Cup in Zaragoza 2016, Men’s World Cup in Bilbao and Okinawa and now the WU17 in Leon/Irapuato.

Maybe I will have some time to post few thoughts and small clips during the coming 10 days in Mexico.. maybe not.. but in the days/weeks after the tournament, there will be the long video of the Finland WU17 summer … maybe you look forward to it.. maybe not 🙂
What ever the case – the next ten days will be something special for myself and for Finnish Basketball.. so let’s enjoy it!
And not forgetting – a HUGE thank you already at this stage to the players and staff of the WU17 team for allowing me the access to the team…. let’s hope I won’t disappoint you with the end result!
