02. Where did the last 48 hours go??
Due to long few days – keeping this post just in English, apologies for that.. just no UMPH! for two language post this time around.
So where did two days disappear??
There are photoshoot trips, and then there are legendary photoshoot trips – Friday to Saturday might end up in the legendary category. Let’s break the journey down… and you can judge yourself on the scale of 1 to 11 how crazy it sounds..
- Thursday 13.00 Drive from Salo to Ylivieska – around 550km drive, just to make the coming days easier. Over night at BestPark Ylivieska in the camper.
- Friday 12.00 Drive from Ylivieska to Simo (in Lapland) for the first photoshoot of Finnish baseball league teams in 2024 – drive of around 200km or so to be there early.
- Friday 16.00 Carry photoshoot equipment into the school lobby where the photoshoot is – set things up, two backdrops, eight lights.. etc, etc.
- Friday 17.00-19.30 Photoshoot with Simon Kiri
- Friday 19.45 – Camper packed – start the drive to the next photoshoot location in Pöytyä – about 730km and a 8 1/2 hour drive without stopping, weather is ‘perfect’ for driving, snow blizzard to start with, fog for few hours and drizzle for the last six hours.
- Saturday 04.45 Arrive to Pop-Areena in Pöytyä – during the drive I had one stop for road side wee, one stop to refill the fuel tank and one almost stop at a bridge underpass that had 75cm of standing water (and almost being crashed into by a huge truck behind me)
- Saturday 05.00 Go to be in the camper outside the Pop-Areena.
- Saturday 07.45 Wake-up – breakfast and five minute fresh air
- Saturday 08.00 Carry things in for photoshoot with Pöytyän Urheilijat
- Saturday 10.00-13.00 Photoshoot with Pöytyä
- Saturday 13.30 Car packed and heading towards the second photoshoot of the day in Laitila
- Saturday 15.20 Arrive to Laitila – carry things in.
- Saturday 16.15-19.15 Photoshoot with Laitila
- Saturday 19.40 Camper packed and heading to a camping ground 30minutes away ..
- Saturday 20.15 Camper parked, heating on ..lights out and time to sleep.
So there – just a usual 30 hours (Friday 12.00 to Sunday 20.00) in the life of a traveling sports photographer.

If you didn’t read any stops, eating or such … that was because those did not happen.. you eat in while players are changing in front of the camera, drink while driving (coke and water!).
Actually now.. just reading that makes me tired 🙂 but – while driving/photoshoots .. didn’t feel tired, felt good energy and stuff.. it is just now that it is done, that the tiredness strikes! Luckily few days to rest before the next roadtrip .. plenty more to come in the weeks to come!
