To Tallinn for Baltic Sea Cup 2024
New year is less than 40 hours old, and it is time for the first trip of the year – to photograph the Baltic Sea Cup in Tallinn, Estonia. Sort of strange for me – that about the only public transport that I did NOT take was a plane. Normally all trips tend to involve a plane at some stage or another – well at least when going abroad.
Today, I started at 10am from home in freezing Tammisaari, driving the 15 minutes to catch a train from Karis. As our lovely rail operator has had replacement buses or other stuff for the Tammisaari-Karis leg of the train for about 3 years now…
From Karis I took a much delayed train to Helsinki – reasons being cold weather, then a local train was let on the track ahead of us, so we crawled like snails, then some kids were causing disturbance on the trackside .. at least an interesting start to the travels for 2024. But – had plenty of time so all good!
From Helsinki railway station it was a tram to Länsisatama, from where a boat to Tallinn. And they were not joking when they said it might be windy/choppy on the seas… first 45minutes it was like a rollercoaster. And me.. really enjoying it… NOT!
At the harbour in Tallinn, dodged the taxi drivers to walk to the bus stop and take a local bus 30 minutes to the hotel near the game venues.
So car, train, tram, boat and bus .. that’s half decent start for the year!
Other than that – managed to get a nice migraine on the travels to the hotel, so went to practice with that.. so not the most energetic shooting session. But was it ever nice to see the blue&white Team Finland jerseys on the court … and for me, fair few new faces and I am sure the players were also wondering who’s the old geezer with a camera on the baseline… but they’ll get to know me during their careers 🙂
Tomorrow it’s time for the first games of 2024 … let’s see what that day brings with it, hopefully some tight games and maybe even some good photos!
What a nice way to start 2024 in the work side of things – and outside the temperatures in Tallinn are about -25 celsius and breezy, so you definitely do wake-up when you go outside.
