It’s just a bubble..
Being a sports photographer for a team/league/federation/etc – it can be rather immersive experience, not too far from being a fan and supporting the team/player.
You spend weeks, or months, planning for an event – you think of all the angles to cover the practice, game or what ever it is that you assignment is.
So basically that sport or event comes your own mini world… and sometimes you take your work seriously enough that it takes over everything (might be talking from experience here 😉 ).
What one quite often tends to forget – that whether it is the team qualifying for World Cup, playing in front of 10.000/50.000 fans… it is still quite a small bubble that is interested in it. For YOU and the people over there – it sort feels like ‘Why isn’t everyone talking about this.. I mean what else is there happening..’

All you really need to do is just to step outside that little bubble, and even amongst people you know… it is always surprising that after only few people… you realise that actually… not many people even knew that the game/tournament was happening.
Trust me – happened to me fair few times, be it basketball, ice hockey, football… what ever. All you see is the headlines you want to see in the papers, you see the team/players more than your own family… so of course for you it feels like the whole world.. but sadly it isn’t 🙁
Still – it does NOT prevent you from enjoying the moment and living it. Goodness knows I’ve done it on my own in some midnight buses in middle of nowhere Slovenia, or hotels in the middle of nowhere. Actually I prefer to be in my own world for few hours after any event.. because I feel it has been so great/immersive – that I just don’t want to hear that now everyone is talking about it (I can go on social media because over there I have likeminded people.. so it is still part of my bubble).
