12 day of basketball – Transit Day

One of .. I think two days that have no games during my little trip – so today was just all about going from A to B.

Yet ANOTHER poor night of sleep, stomach cramps and room like a sauna (air con set to 15 degrees..), so that was FUN… not. And considering the hotel where I stayed was pretty empty, to get a room right above the loading dock – where traffic started at 5am.. was, questionable to put it mildly.

Luckily I had to be awake at 6am to start the drive to Munich airport.

Talking of rental cars.. nice car to drive for the three days in Germany, but this morning when I woke-up, there was decent frost on the windows and there was no ice scraper provided by the rental company. So – gloves on and turn the engine on.. heating to blow full blast and try to use hands to scrape off the ice, different 😉

Drive to Munich – really foggy in the morning so some drivers were going 50km/h on 100km/h stretches of road, not that I would have been going too much faster myself.. but still, good that I had reserved plenty of time for the drive. Perhaps I have been used to driving on the Finnish roads for too long now – drive to Kauhajoki (400km or so) I probably see 50-70 other cars.. over here in Germany it’s cars passing you on the left all the time (sometimes on the right as well) and you having to over take trucks every two minutes..

And don’t get me started on the smaller roads.. speed limits, whats’t the deal with them!!! Driving through town.. 50km/h, yes, I get that – then you get outside the town and speed limit changes to 100km/h, OK – then 200meters later it goes to 70km/h.. WHAT!! Now I had hardly accelerated to 100km/h before I had to slow down.. and by the time you’ve slowed down to 70km/h. You guessed it, it’s back to 100km/h.

You might have guessed that I have strong opinions about driving in Germany 🙂

Airport on time – drop-off rental car.. head to bag drop (which didn’t work first time as I had too many old baggage stickers on – so rip twenty or so of them off and it goes through).

Through the security and to the gate to wait and spend some time replying to emails and stuff. Then the dreaded three hour flight while sitting on the middle seat… really not a friend of that – but with some decent podcasts, the time went surprisingly fast and we landed on time to Porto.

Luggage, Metro, Hotel..

SUNSHINE – SUNSHINE !!! There is sunshine in Porto – I haven’t seen the sun in months, it was so lovely to step outside the airport to wait for the Metro and see blue skies.. just a WOW moment.

How do you know you live in the Nordic countries?? You go to southern Europe during the winter and it is 13 degrees, locals wear winter jackets and some wear wooly hats (and everyone seems a bit cold) and what do you do.. you wonder if the long sleeve shirt is a BIT MUCH for this weather and should you be wearing a t-shirt..

Other than that – recovery day and taking it easy, there will be hectic schedules coming up.. so better take the rest now that I can. Tomorrow is Game Day again.. and maybe a little bit of time in the morning to walk around some random parts of Porto.

Lunch Score : 8,5/10 (despite the hard bit that almost broke my tooth)

Sleep Score : 6/10

Song of the Day : https://youtu.be/Kv0noMoJKPE (The Boys os Summer – Don Henley

Radio Station of the day – Antenna Bayern
