Women’s Korisliiga in Forssa!

New year and Women’s Korisliiga (not sure why there is the ‘women’s’ there.. but hey, that’s they way they write it) is back from a longish Xmas/New Year break – so decided to head out to Forssa on a snowy Sunday afternoon for a game between Forssan Alku and EBT.

Home team playing for the spot in the Upper section of the second half of the season, and thus an automatic place in playoffs – where as the visitors… they are right there only one win behind the table topping PeKa.Enjoab

Enjoyable game to photograph – even if they venue does have ‘vertigo inducing’ walls at one end 😉

EBT has probably the best duo of foreign players in the league – with Sierra Moore and Carmen Tyson-Thomas, both putting up REALLY big numbers each night.

But – for me, as I’ve been lucky enough to be at the last two EBT games – the real star has been Erika Mace – she is just 15 and has played two games in the Korisliiga. On her debut vs Kouvottaret before Xmas – I think she made 5 or 6 of her first shots and ended up with 15 points in the game!! I would call that a decent debut in the senior team at the age of 15.

And last night wasn’t any worse – little over 20 minutes of game time and getting really close to making a double-double (9 points and 7 rebounds) and after two games – her 3 point shooting is at 71,4% (5/7) .. take that Lauri Markkanen 😉

But – great to be back at the baseline for 2023 in the Women’s Korisliiga… next game on Tuesday. Before things get pretty quiet ahead of the Finnish Cup Final 4 weekend in Helsinki (hotel life for me in the capital for few nights)
