W D1 – HyPo vs TuNMKY

Too close to the drum!

This game – honestly, it was a blur!

During the first quarter, I sat too close to the fan with the drum – so my head started to ache and a slight migraine came over me. But – my fault, didn’t know the drum was so loud!

Game?

Hmm .. as said, really sort of went in a haze and head-ache, but TuNMKY won, I know that much.

Also, it was a BIG win for TuNMKY as they are battling to get to the playoffs at the end of the season, so each win counts. This win lifted them to the sixth place and on the last spot to get into ‘Group A’ for the spring .. (but what does that mean?? Top 6, but what else??)

HyPo on the other hand, still only two wins this season and just above Salon Vilpas and pretty certain to be in ‘Group C’ for the spring.

Result

TuNMKY won 85-64, but each quarter was kinda close. Winning each by few points, but that’s how you grind out the gap slowly during the match.

Stats Pack

HyPo : Nella Honka and Oona Koskelainen each with a double-double (19p/10rb and 14p/10rb). Sohvi Parikka also in double digits with 10 points. Minttu-Maria Lilja grabbing 8 rebounds in the game.

TuNMKY : All even – but two top scorers Alexandra Ailus 20 points and Sohvi Saviniemi 16 points. Rest of the squad, 5, 6, 7 or 9 points each.. nicely spread scoring for the whole roster. Rebounds – Eva Tauriainen with 8, as well as Sohvi Saviniemi.

Memories

Martinhalli, Hyvinkää. In the late 2010’s – that was the place to be in Finnish Naisten Korisliiga – HyPo was a favourite place for many experienced players, they won the Championship in 2017.. and I remember the title winning game, it was hot outside and inside and full house (with extra seats).

It is only eight years since the title, in someways – feels like yesterday, in others.. it feels like ages ago.

But hey – they still have extremely nice Korvapuusti in the cafe at the Martinhalli!!
