Iiro Tuomi coaching at MU19
How many MU19 teams does Honka have??
Another one of those, OH! I’ll take few photos from the game on the adjacent court.
Was still shooting the Honka vs EBT WU17 Finnish League game, and it seems like when one MU19 game ends. Another Honka MU19 game begins!
This time it was MU19 D1 – Southern Region – Spring series.
Iiro Tuomi comments on the MU19 league and his MU19 team
This Honka team is being coaches by the Tapiolan Honka Korisliiga team player, Iiro Tuomi. And if I am not wrong, many of the players do spend time coaching the youth teams.
So I dropped Iiro a quick message and asked him to describe the league (MU19 D1 South) and the team he coaches (Honka R2). Here are his thoughts on the league and the team.
“MU19 D1 South is a fast tempo and physical league, where a 15 point lead can be quickly erased if you don’t stay alert on the court all the time.”
“Our team (Tapiolan Honka R2) is a mic of players who have played at the Finnish League (SM-sarja) level in various age groups, some have only picked up playing basketball in their teen years and some are here because of the camaraderie/friends and to just to enjoy playing basketball”
“The team is really competitive and eager to show/prove what we are capable of. We started this season in the autumn at Division 2 with a record of 8 wins and 1 defeat. After which we moved up to the D1 (southern) to tests our standards/level of game.”
“We have a positive outlook in the team, which has shown concretely in the results we’ve been getting – as well as on the practice court and consequently in the amount of new players joining us during the season”
HUGE!! Thanks to Iiro for taking time to share his thoughts on the team and the league with me, even after a hard training session late on Tuesday evening.
As for the game itself during the weekend, really didn’t follow it – took photos for a while and it looked like the typical fast paced MU19 game I am getting used to.
Stats Pack
Game itself stretched on the second quarter with Honka taking that 23-7, and they eventually won the game 100-56.
At this level, the stats don’t seem that comprehensive- so really picking just top scorers here.
For Honka : #27 Eemil Elo with respectable 27 points, #16 Jesse Tukiainen 14p, #9 Oliver Mäntynen 13p and #83 Joshua Saikkonen 12p.
For Ponteva : #88 Akseli Anttila with 15 points and #4 Leo Pirinen and #7 Eero Rantala with 10 points a piece.
