Team of the Week 46 – Korisliiga

Another week behind us in Korisliiga – and only one week to go until the international break. So Susijengi coach Dettmann is probably keeping an eye on certain Finnish players in Korisliiga – and couple of them made statements in their games and earned their place to the team of the week.

This week was more the battle of forwards and guards, instead of last weeks outstanding center performances. Good to have some variety in the positions that play strong each week.

So the team of the week for week 46 in Korisliiga is as follows :

Avery Woodson (G) Ura Basket – Ura Basket probably had the result of the week, with a road win in Joensuu, where they took the scalp of Kataja Basket (Finland’s sole representative in FIBA team competitions this season). Woodson recorded a game high 28 points, and lead his team from the back court. It was his three point shooting this time that earned him most of his points. But his defence was also solid – and two steals in his stat-lines do him credit as well.

Fiifi Aidoo (F) Ura Basket – Second player from the newly promoted team, who has maybe used to seeing Malik Dime with the big stats from games. This time it was the back-court that dominated against Kataja.Fiifi’s long arms helped him to two steals and 24 points in the game. His rebounding wasn’t at his strongest at this game, but still – first spot in the team of the week is rightly deserved!

Juho Nenonen (F) Vilpas Vikings– It has been a glaring hole in the Team of the Week until now, no players from the table topping Vilpas have made it to it before now. But how can any player from Vilpas shine in the stats, as their game time is so evenly spread – and all players get good stats – but not OUTSTANDING stats. But, this week Nenonen grabs a sport with his performance against Korihait – where Vilpas turned on the steam for the first time this season and really hammered home the win. Solid all around performance earns Juho his place on the wings of the team of the week.

Jaylon Tate (G) – Pyrinto – Tate is no stranger to Team of the Week, and neither are his team mates. High scoring team, solid defence – Pyrinto is one of the positive teams of the season – and their high scoring game is gathering praise. Tate is spinning the game from the back court and his shooting can be deadly – going 9-9 this game from 2 point range. Once again this inclusion comes from a game vs Korihait (who might wish to forget this week). But Tate is definitely taking the Korisliiga in his stride, and you can only expect him to get better as the season goes on.

Christopher Ortiz (C) – Seagulls – The place of the big guy was quite open until the last evening of the week, when Christopher Ortiz blew every other option clear out of the water. His MVP performance vs Karhu Basket on Sunday evening in Helsinki. Still has the fans talking in pubs around Helsinki and it really is showing that he has already played in the Korisliiga (last season with Kobrat) – he knows the style of game, knows the calls referees make/don’t make. Game high 28 points – and clearly enjoying playing with new recruit Juwan Staten.. this duo can get deadly as the season goes on. Take a bow Mr Ortiz!!

Bench : Malcolm Bernard (BC Nokia), Brian Asbury (Kouvot), Stephon Jelks (Korihait), Topias Palmi (Kataja), Zane Waterman (Kobrat), Rene Rougeau (Karhu), Teemu Rannikko (Vilpas)
