Nordic Championships 2025: U18 Women’s Tournament Highlights

Summer of 2025 has officially tipped-off with International games for me – and what better way to get going than the traditional week in Södertälje, Sweden for the Nordic Championships – this time Women U18 tournament!

Long-ish – 2min 30seconds of footage from Day 01 in Södertälje – featuring ALL the games.

Three games, three similar outcomes.

Opening game : Norway vs Finland.

Finland took this with the biggest margin of the day, with 125-40 win on the board after the 40 minutes…

Top performers for Finland were – Jessi Nenonen (double-double 30 points – 10 steals!!), Erika Mace 20 points and Aino Koskela 16 points.

Coach Hänninen of Finland shared the load very evenly for his roster, with only Nenonen playing over 20 minutes (and JUST over with 21 minutes) – with one eye probably already on the Sweden game on Sunday evening.

For Norway – Siena Sandford top scored with double digits score, and Oda Marie lead the team in rebounds.

Battle of the boards – coaches always say that ‘you got to want and win the rebounds’ – Finland dominated the boards with 58 rebounds to Norways 35.. so maybe the coaches know something?

Second game : Estonia vs Iceland.

Closest game of the day – with Iceland tipping in a bucket just as the buzzer went, to reach 101 points, and Estonia had 72,

Only one double-double in this game as well, with Iceland #11 Hulda Agnarsdottir with 10 points and 12 rebounds – like Nenonen for Finland, she was also close to a triple-double as some stats were just shy of the double digits.

Top scorer for the winners was Elisabet Olafsdottir with 16 points, who probably feels that she could have had few more points – with a little more accurate finishing from inside the arc.

For Estonia Laura Grunnmann top scored for the game, with 20 points.

Last one of the day : Sweden vs Denmark

OK – got to admit I wasn’t sure if I was going to stay for this one – as I was getting pretty hungry by this point! But – stuck around until half-time to capture some footage and stills!

Sweden took the game 105 – 53 – with the game really being decided on the third quarter with the home team really taking the game to the basket.

No double-doubles in this match, but with the games coming so thick and fast – and players playing time kept to minimum – it is no wonder.

Flirting with a double double was Sweden’s Ebba Jägre – with just one rebound shy of a double-double… maybe next game??

Sweden had seven players reaching double digits on scoring – so very evenly spread stats sheet for the home team.

For Denmark – Ida Kirkeby Westphall and Ella Fischer – both scored 10 points per player – and were the top scorers for the team in red.

Games continue on Sunday with :

Estonia vs Norway at 14.00

Iceland vs Denmark at 16.15

Finland vs Sweden at 18.30

Who will be the top scorers and performers on Day 02 of the tournament and how do you think the games will go today??
