Korisliiga-What’s up with all the injuries?

What is going on?? The amount of injuries is getting quite ridiculous this early season in Korisliiga.

The list is starting to be as long a 5 year old Xmas present list…

Vilpas Vikings : D.J Fenner

Seagulls : Wayne Blackshear, Christopher Ortiz

Ura Basket : Eldar Skamo, Pyry Rainamaa, John Jordan (didn’t even make it to Finland!), Avery Woodson, Stephen Croone

Karhu Basket : Kazembe Abif

KTP : Julius Rajala

BC Nokia : Daniel Dolenc

Kataja Basket : Tommi Huolila (flu), Sami Vanttaja, Matias Ojala

And this list probably isn’t even the full list, just ones that came from the top of my head. Such a shame that there is so many injuries to many key players at the moment. No team wants to have an injury to any of their players.

But no matter who you support, your heart must go out to Ura Basket – newly promoted to the Korisliiga. And even before the start of the season they lost Eldar Skamo for couple of months with an injury. Then Pyry Rainamaa also found himself with a slight injury after the Korihait game, John Jordan didn’t even make it to Finland… and all this in the crazy start for the team, 4 games in 7 days and with such a depleted roster. No coach wants to use injuries as a reason why they lost games, but the tight schedule and missing players.. let’s admit that it doesn’t make things any easier for the newly promoted team.

Kataja also, in the middle of both Korisliiga and FIBA EuropeCup – they sure could with a full roster. And I think that Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson might just have also joined the sickbay of Kataja. Not what the team wanted for sure from their leading scorer in Korisliiga.

And KarhuBasket – Kazembe Abif is now expected to have to have an operation, so a longer spell on the sidelines is on the cards.

Seagulls, Blackshear hits over 30 points in his first game… now sidelined.

Let’s hope all this injury business is now done for this season, and we can start to get settled rosters and teams playing with full squads.
